Breaking Barriers
Final Thesis Project - Link to the game
My role - In depth research on Social anxiety and existing ways to overcome it. Did Interviews and surveys with people suffering with social anxiety and people medically diagnosed with social anxiety.
With the research I further designed four mini games based on the concept of exposure therapy. Each game highlighting different situations triggering social anxiety such as first interaction, social events, parties, asking for help, being a burden and performance anxiety.
For the development part of the game, first game was created on unity and inky using C# script. Second game is a printable card game designed on photoshop. Third is a physical wooden maze game which was constructed using fusion 360 for the 3D model and then laser cutting the pieces. Forth game was developed on unity by configuring Kinect 360 to access real time motion sensor and recording it.
Embark on an adventure through social interactions in 'Breaking Barriers.' This unique game blends various mini-games to create an immersive experience that caters to those navigating the challenges of social anxiety. As you delve into the game, you'll find a collection of activities designed to inspire self-discovery, personal growth, and the forging of genuine connections. This includes:
1. A Heartfelt Narrative Date: Experience the nervous excitement and authentic emotions of a first date as you guide characters through meaningful conversations, in Stars Aligned a narrative game.
2. Labyrinth of Collaboration: Engage in a physical maze-solving challenge that mirrors the collaborative effort often required in real-life social situations. Team up with strangers, discovering the power of seeking help, in Collaborate a board game.
3. Break the Ice : Warm up the atmosphere with a series of ice breaker questions, to encourage open dialogue. Uncover shared interests, hilarious stories, and intriguing facts, creating an environment of trust and understanding, in Link Up a Card game.
4. Dance Therapy: Utilise an innovative dance therapy using Kinect 360, designed for individuals managing performance anxiety. With immersive environments and carefully guided movements, this mini-game helps you develop a sense of comfort and confidence in social scenarios, its the game Groove using real time motion sensing.
While gameplay elements are diverse, they all share a common goal: to nurture empathy, create genuine connections, and provide a therapeutic journey for those struggling with social anxiety.
